Korea Indonesia Film Festival 2016 - The Opening Ceremony

I know it's very late, but I really want to write my review about the Korea Indonesia Film Festival 2016, especially toward the opening ceremony.

Just like the past years, thank God I got invited again in one of the biggest festival that related to Korea, Korea Indonesia Film Festival 2016. This year, I got lucky because I had 2 invitation that made me able to ask 3 of my friends to join me. Since this is a film festival, I decided to ask my junior from my movie community called MovOnC (Movie on Campus) to accompany me attending The Opening Ceremony of Korea Indonesia Film Festival 2016 (KIFF 2016).
As usual, KIFF got a positive response and many people wanted to attend the event. The euphoria could be seen through a social media like Twitter where a lot of Korean movies fans mentioned KIFF 2016 official Twitter account and asked for the invitation. A lot of people were eager to attend for so many reasons, especially because there was a guest star, a Korean movie actor. This year, KIFF invited Kim In Kwon as a representative of Korean actor and Julie Estelle as a representative of Indonesian actress.

Briefly, the schedule of the opening ceremony consisted of red carpet walk (guest stars and ambassadors), opening speeches (guests stars, ambassadors, government representatives, etc), ribbon cutting, and film screening (THE AGE OF SHADOWS).

As a big event and had been held for several times, I was (honestly) a little bit disappointed for this year opening ceremony event especially in terms of time and queue management
It was written in the invitation that the opening started at 6PM. Even until 5.30 PM, there were no staff who was in charge in the registration desk. Once the registration opened, there was a very long line, hectic, and I didn't see any volunteer nor staff help to manage the queue. One of the biggest question for me is that, if we were invited, why we need to waste our time in a long queue to get our seat number and if they really needed us to do registration, why they opened it just in time the event had to be started.

From my experiences handling various of film festivals, the special part of festivals such as the opening and the closing ceremony are mostly for people who are invited and because of that, we need to treat them well such as with avoiding long queue and be on time. People who get invitation usually are important people such as ambassadors, a representatives from several important sides such as government, etc. If a long queue happened, all member of team who saw that need to act quick and help to manage it regardless what kind of position they had. In ticketing side of registration side, it is good to just print more than 1 copies of the list of people invited in case of there is a long line, a more lines could be managed, unlike what happened in this opening ceremony of KIFF 2016.

The other problems are in terms of time. I've mentioned that it was written that the event would be started at 6 PM. But, the fact said that the red carpet event started at 7.20 PM and we could enter the auditorioum by 7.30 PM. I'd expected the movie would end by 9 PM but since it was pushed back, we could got home by 10.30 PM. I really hope they will do much better in terms of time for the next event.

Besides those two things, the opening ceremony went well and people could enjoy the movie well and the staffs+volunteers were kind.  I hope KIFF 2017 will be better in the next year as this event not only represent Korea but also Indonesia.

Kimcheers!
